Who Won? Check Out The Oscars 2018 List


The star-studded night in Hollywood culminated, adding names of various artists to its elite list. The 90th Academy Awards also turned out to be the first award show in the entire season where people got to see the elegant and colorful dresses on the red carpet. The remarkable work of the nominated movie rose tough competition by few stood out to be the shining stars of the night. Let us get a glimpse of how the night unfolded.

Starting from the name of actor, Gary Oldman was finally able to grab the ‘Best-actor’ trophy in Joe Wright's 'The Darkest Hour', beating Timothee Chalamet from 'Call Me by Your Name', Daniel Day-Lewis from 'Phantom Thread', Daniel Kaluuya from 'Get Out' and Denzel Washington from 'Roman J. Israel, Esq'. After giving his 35 successful years in Hollywood Oldman won Oscars for his role of Winston Churchill at the time of World War II.

Frances McDormand grabbed the trophy for her remarkable role in 'Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri' beating Meryl Streep from 'The Post', Margot Robbie from 'I, Tonya', Sally Hawkins from 'The Shape of Water' and Saoirse Ronan from 'Lady Bird'. It was the second academy for McDormand. She first received Academy awards in the year 1997 for her role in 1996 ‘Fargo.’ On her passionate speech, McDormand asked all the female Oscar nominees among the audience to rise up in solidarity.

After over 25 years of illustrious career, the 53-year-old director, Guillermo Del Toro was finally able to get the best director award for 'Shape of Water'. He beat out Christopher Nolan for 'Dunkirk', Paul Thomas Anderson for 'Phantom Thread', Jordan Peele for 'Get Out' and Greta Gerwig for 'Lady Bird'. It was the first Oscar among the fourth nomination for the director. Del Toro thanked Hollywood for welcoming immigrants like him during his speech.

‘Shape of Water’ bagged the last award of the evening, under the category of best film. The competition was tough but the film defeated its strong competitors including 'Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri', 'Get Out,' and 'Lady Bird.' The fantasy thriller stars Sally Hawkins as a cleaner who cannot speak. She discovers a strange aquatic-human hybrid in a water tank and helps it to escape from a secret government lab. The film won four Oscars among 13 nominations. The film somehow managed to get the Oscars, even after being under the plagiarism controversy since last few weeks.

Mexican fantasy of Disney and Pixar, ‘Coco’, bagged the Best Animated Feature award and Best Original Song for ‘Remember Me.’

Christopher Nolan’s Second World War movie “Dunkirk” although failed to get the best picture or director trophy, but the film grabbed three Oscars in editing and sound.



 

The Academy Awards went emotional during the ‘IN MEMORIAM’ segment when a tribute was paid to the late legends. Among these legends, Indian actors, Sridevi and Shashi Kapoor were also added to the Memoriam montage. Fans and celebs took over to Twitter to praise the Academy for this gesture. American musician, Eddie Vedder performed the memoriam and sang Tom Petty's "Room at the top.”
