New Delhi, November 9, 2017:
Is it fashion that is victimized or just the people?
There is a diplomatic catch that puts in light the rise of rape cases in India, and the causes that are inclined to dressing up in western attire. India, democratic as it speaks, is wandering in the dilemma of being secular in this perspective. The idea of relating clothing to do anything with assault has lead to the enforcement of modest dress codes in the society.
The report says that in India women fall victimized in every 15 minutes. Thus, averting it from attaining a stable position globally. The increased ratio of men’s population to women has bend society to believe that women are more often victim of such savage crime as rape. However, the mindset has groomed such gruesome incidents in the country.
Part of the society also blames alcohol consumption and the other point women clothing for triggering rape. Is it right on our part to blame fashion for such crimes? The answer fights within two heads with different perspective.
The incident of ‘Nirbhaya’ gang rape outraged the country, with speakers pouring comments over decent ways of women dressing. How far is it justified to quote such reasons for the rape of one-year-old? The list of responses to the rape cases does not end here. Many politicians blamed effects of films and popular western culture for reporting such crimes.
Knowledge is not always certain to humanity for all. People put opinion, which does not justify rape victim, and throb question on provocation. “It is the atmosphere that excites the man, which result to rape...”, said the defense lawyer of the accused in Nirbhaya’s case.
Does it mean a woman invite to be raped? Or does it mean that women in western attire are provoking?
The answer is still untold and perplexed.
Blaming fashion can bring no end to this. The change in mindset is what every person needs to adopt. Just a legal action can put no end to such heinous crime.
Many Bollywood celebrities have also stepped forward to help women for their safety. Action star Akshay Kumar initiated women safety campaign, offering martial art training for self-defense. Kareena Kapoor also actively supported violence against women by becoming part of ‘Shakti’ campaign.
The oppressive atrocity against women should be dealt strongly. One should not forget that every individual stands same in front of the law. We just need to stand and speak for it, because when a single speak, the voice goes untold, but the mass voice can bring a change.
