New Delhi, September 22, 2017: Bollywood drama and comedy film ‘Newton’ becomes another Indian movie, chosen to enter the academy awards next year.
Directed by Amit Masurkar, the political satire stars National Award winner Rajkummar Rao in the lead role and Pankaj Tripathi, Anjali Patil, Raghubir Yadav and Sanjay Mishra in cameo roles.
The selection, of the movie, was a unanimously taken by the Film Federation of India (FFI) committee, headed by Telugu producer C V Reddy.
Reportedly, FFI secretary general Supran Sen said the movie was chosen among 26 entries.

The film comments on the scenario of contemporary times that portray a noble government employee who tries endure the corruption, apathy, and exhaustion around him throughout the film. The plot is based on how an election officer tried to carry out fair polling in a Naxalite hit rural area of Chhattisgarh.
The day calls for double celebration for the cast and the crews as the film hit the theatres in 22nd September and nominated the same day.
Soon after the official announcement, Twitter got flooded with the wishes and reviews about the film.
"Saw the film 'Newton'... its stark reality was a treat to watch! An eye-opener on many aspects!", tweeted Bollywood superstar, Amitabh Bachchan.
Tamil film ‘Visaranai’ made it to the Oscars last year under the category of Foreign Language Film but unfortunately failed to win.
Interrogation (2016), Court (2015), Liar’s Dice (2014), The Good Road (2013), Barfi (2012), Harishchandra’s Factory (2009), Taare Zameen Par (2008) are some of India’s Oscars submissions.
The 9th Academy Awards will take place on 04th March next year at Dolby Theatre.
